Marriage Vows

Having Also Fun With Your Marriage Vows

Couples have traditionally taken their marriage vows in churches with their family and friends in attendance. This happens only after a great deal of careful planning and organization. The bride and her mother typically handle the invitations for the wedding, culling through family and friends and deciding who to invite and, unfortunately, who to leave out.

A wedding invitation you might receive in the mail is more than just a beautiful collection of engraved paper. It represents many hours of studying samples and styles, going over guest lists and calculating the cost of a reception. A wedding invitation to attend the loving vows of a friend or family member is not only a chance to have fun at a special occasion; it tells you that you’re an important part of the couple’s lives.

A marriage ceremony can be simple or elaborate, frugal or costly (like a marriage in Vegas …). Most brides want to remember their wedding vows as a perfect day full of magic but it takes a lot of work to accomplish that! Even a bare bones wedding demands a lot of preparation, from deciding on the date of the wedding to what to serve at the reception. Elaborate and costly weddings are becoming relatively scarce, however, as couples are shy of spending so many thousands of dollars to take their “serious come-togehter”.

Weddings don’t have to cost a lot of money, though. A new trend, the potluck reception, has recently begun to replace the traditional reception that follows the marriage and it’s catching on across the country. Guests and relatives each bring a dish, perhaps a specialty of theirs that the bride or groom has always liked, and the wedding meal is served buffet style. Aside from the money saved, it makes the reception more personal and more relating. It allows guests to contribute more than their presence or a gift. Some people think this idea is cheap and insulting but it helps everyone to get involved in the wedding and give something special to the happy couple.

Whether you’re planning a wedding or attending one, remember that it’s a day to have fun and make memories that will last a lifetime.
